We are excited to announce an opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join our team, becoming our next Director of Science. The Sixth Form Bolton is a fantastic place to work, and the role of Director of Science is one of the most important - many of our Gifted and Talented students are studying STEM subjects and it's a large subject area - we have more than 800 enrolments to individual science subjects, in 41 class groups across the two years. Science matters to us, and to the communities we serve - in fact we have the aspiration to become a regional centre of excellence for Science.

We are the only specialist Sixth Form in the town, and the largest provider of A Level studies in the borough. As a Sixth Form, we concentrate on programmes that are for students aged 16-19. If you are successful in your application, you’ll be joining a specialist Sixth Form, ranked within the top 10% in the country.

We are looking for someone who can work with pace and have a continual and inspiring focus on improving student outcomes. We need someone with a good teaching record, who either aspires to leadership,or has had experience of leading a single Science subject and would now like to put that experience to wider use, who can maintain our fantastic team spirit and realise the very best from all their colleagues and staff. Our ideal leader will reward excellence, recognise where change is needed or a subject is underperforming, and move forward with those changes, in a supportive, but determined and planned manner.

Interview and selection will be during w/c 22nd April 2024.
We hope the successful candidate will be able to start in September 2024.

The Sixth Form Bolton

The Sixth Form Bolton was formed in the late 1990’s as the result of the merger of Bolton North and Bolton South Colleges to form a single, specialist Sixth Form. The Sixth Form Bolton performs well academically, and is ranked as one of the highest performing Colleges in the North West of England.

Students studying both academic and vocational qualifications perform significantly better at The Sixth Form Bolton, than national benchmarks. Our leavers then progress onto top universities (receiving offers from Oxford, Cambridge, and Russell Group Universities in 2023), or into apprenticeships and employment.

In 2023, our students achieved a pass rate of 98% on their A level courses, with 76% of all courses achieving a 100% pass rate. On the BTEC Extended Diploma, our students achieved higher-graded passes 93% of the time, and 97% of our students progressed into further courses of study at university, into apprenticeships, or into employment.
